Paul Pogba 'tests positive for coronavirus' as Man Utd star left out of France squad
Manchester United superstar Paul Pogba has tested positive for coronavirus.
Man Utd: Pogba passes to Fernandes at closed match in June
Paul Pogba has tested positive for coronavirus, according to France manager Didier Deschamps. The Manchester United superstar has been left out of Les Bleus' squad for their upcoming UEFA Nations League matches against Sweden and Croatia.
Rennes wonderkid Eduardo Camavinga, 17, has been called into the fold as Pogba's replacement.
Deschamps told a press conference: "I've completed at the very last minute a change in the list, because Paul Pogba, who was previously on the list, unfortunately for him he carried out a test yesterday which was returned as positive this morning."
Tottenham midfielder Tanguy Ndombele has also reportedly tested positive for COVID-19 which rules him out of international action. He did not feature in Spurs' pre-season opener against Ipswich Town last Saturday.
The two players will need to go into self-isolation, a little over two weeks before the Premier League's new season begins.
Pogba's positive test is the latest issue facing Ole Gunnar Solskjaer ahead of the 2020/21 campaign.
The Red Devils are the only 'Big Six' team without a new signing in this transfer window, with the pursuit of Borussia Dortmund sensation Jadon Sancho hitting a brick wall.
Solskjaer has also had to deal with the fall out from Harry Maguire's arrest in Mykonos, although the club captain has been granted a full retrial.
United's run to the Europa League semi-finals means they will not be in action on the opening weekend of the season so there is plenty of time for Pogba to return to full training. Crystal Palace's visit to Old Trafford on September 19 will be their curtain-raising fixture.
Tottenham kick off their campaign at home to Everton on September 12.
