Man Utd: Pundits discuss David de Gea’s future on the team
Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has backed David De Gea to rediscover his best form after a nightmare campaign at Old Trafford. The Spain international is under pressure to improve with Dean Henderson returning from his loan spell at Sheffield United. But Ferdinand feels he has what it takes to continue as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s No 1.
For the most part, De Gea has been a vital asset for United ever since his arrival from La Liga giants Atletico Madrid back in the summer of 2011.
But, last season, the Spain international’s standards slipped.
De Gea made a series of costly errors for the club against the likes of Watford, Everton, Arsenal, Tottenham and in the 3-1 FA Cup semi-final defeat to Chelsea at Wembley.
With Henderson returning from his loan spell at Sheffield United, De Gea is now under pressure to up the ante.
And United legend Ferdinand believes the Red Devils star is worth sticking with, tipping him to show why he was once regarded as the best goalkeeper on the planet.

“He’s a great goalkeeper and over the years he has been fantastic for United.
“He was player of the year four out of six years or whatever it was, but if you are not pouring the goods over an extended period of time you have to be told and there has to be someone waiting in the wings to come in.”
Ferdinand also hailed Bruno Fernandes, who transformed United’s season after arriving from Sporting Lisbon in January.
At the time of his move the Red Devils were a club in crisis, with supporters turning on Ed Woodward and the Glazers as a result.
But Fernandes sparkled for United, scoring eight league goals and registering seven assists to help them finish third in the Premier League table.
