Man City: Pep Guardiola hits out at other Premier League clubs
Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola wants to sign Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane, according to transfer expert Ian McGarry. Varane is claimed to be Guardiola's No 1 target for the centre-back position this summer. It has been a problem area for City this season, with Aymeric Laporte missing much of the campaign due to injury.
Guardiola has admitted John Stones could leave the club in the next window, leaving City desperately short of recognised central defenders.
McGarry says Guardiola wants Varane but says getting the Frenchman out of the Bernabeu will be a difficult task.
"I had a conversation with someone who does business with Manchester City [on Monday] and I was told that, and I think this is unlikely, Raphael Varane, Real Madrid's centre-half, is Pep's preferred choice as the first partner for Laporte, to pair with Aymeric Laporte," McGarry said on the Transfer Window podcast.
"It would certainly be a formidable duo at the heart of the defence, although Varane at 27 is in the peak of his career and is most likely about to win a La Liga title in Madrid.

“And I am critical of my Club. Internally when I do not like something, I say it to my chairman.
“And my chairman is not happy with me if we finish 23 or 21 points behind Liverpool, but we discuss it internally.
“So, we will try to be better next season and to compete next season but on the pitch.”
