Man Utd: Williams' head injury was a ‘bad cut’ says Solskjaer
Manchester United hero Darren Fletcher believes Anthony Martial is close to becoming an ‘elite No 9’ for the Red Devils. The France international has scored 21 goals under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer this season - his best-ever tally for a single campaign. And Fletcher has been impressed by the forward’s improvement.
The pressure was on Martial at the start of the season, with Manchester United offloading Alexis Sanchez and Romelu Lukaku to coax the best from the Frenchman.
And he’s delivered in the time since, with the 24-year-old taking his goal tally to 21 against Southampton on Monday night.
Martial looks up for it and has spoken glowingly of Solskjaer, whose methods he appreciates far more than Jose Mourinho’s.
And Fletcher believes the Frenchman is close to becoming an elite striker, telling MUTV: "I thought Anthony Martial was fantastic.
"I think his endeavour, his work-rate… the talent has always been there.

"There’s always been question marks about his work-rate and his desire but he’s definitely putting that right and he’s been the most surprising player for me [since the restart].
"I think he’s been fantastic. I think we’re seeing somebody on the cusp – if he keeps this going – of being a real elite number nine goalscorer.
"His attitude all night was a real positive for me."
After the match against Southampton on Monday, Solskjaer dubbed the forward ‘top class’.
"Anthony I thought he was excellent today, absolutely top class,” he said.
