Tottenham: Mourinho may not be able to buy players says pundit
Tottenham are reportedly moving a step closer to completing a move for Atalanta star Timothy Castagne in the summer transfer window. Spurs have seemingly been hit harder than some other Premier League teams financially by the coronavirus pandemic.
Major events scheduled to take place at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium have been postponed or cancelled, leading to club chairman Daniel Levy taking out a £175million loan from the Bank of England to offset predicted losses caused by the COVID-19 outbreak.
As a result, Tottenham aren't expected to be busy recruiting big-money signings in the summer transfer window.
Instead, Mourinho will have to alter his plans in looking for bargain deals or free agents.
Improving his defence seems to be top of Mourinho's priorities heading into the market with Jan Vertonghen set to leave as a free agent.
But Spurs may face competition for his signature with both Paris Saint-Germain and Leicester said to be interested.
Mourinho has already held numerous talks with chairman Levy regarding the club's summer transfer plans.
And the 57-year-old claims he hasn't made any demands regarding any targets.
“I don’t feel very comfortable to speak about [what I want] publicly,” Mourinho said.

“One thing is what I would like and, of course, Mr Levy knows what I would like.
“But I know the situation perfectly. And that’s why I say, ‘I would like’ and I don’t say, ‘I want’.
“Because I have to respect the situation of the world and the situation of my club.
“So we have to be very cautious in our words.
“Of course we have to improve, we have to improve generally. Let’s see what is possible.”
