For Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta, the size of the job he has on his hands in north London is only getting bigger. Sunday’s chastening 2-1 defeat to Brighton was proof of that, with the Gunners toiling at the Amex Stadium. When Arsenal signed Kieran Tierney in the summer transfer window, it was because they knew Sead Kolasinac wasn’t good enough to shine on a regular basis.
And that was particularly evident against Brighton, with the left-back’s performance leaving much to be desired.
Kolasinac was anonymous on Saturday afternoon and didn’t get forward to offer the Gunners anything in attack.
He dealt well with the aerial balls Brighton put his way but, given how size and stature, that’s the least you’d expect.
From an outside perspective, it looks like Dani Ceballos doesn’t want to be at Arsenal anymore.
The Spain international is spending the season on loan from Real Madrid and, given this performance, its unlikely he’ll be joining on a permanent basis.
Ceballos offered precious little for Arsenal going forward and faded after a bright start.
The 23-year-old was too slow in distributing the ball and, given how Arteta wants his side to be speedy, he just doesn’t fit in.
