And McTominay only got the ball to the Red Devils’ latest recruit on three occasions, the second-lowest of any player on the pitch.
McTominay and Martial are players who are meant to be there to help Fernandes shine and flourish.
And it’s perhaps no surprise that the United stars failed to play the full 90 minutes on Sunday, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer hooking them.
To put their lacklustre displays into perspective, even Juan Mata got the ball to the Portugal international on more occasions - three despite being on the pitch for just over 20 minutes.
And both McTominay and Martial must make sure they find Fernandes more going forward given how much of a goal threat he is.
Meanwhile, speaking after the game, Solskjaer delivered his verdict on his No 18’s performance.

"He's a good player and we have been missing that type of player to do that for us, I'm very pleased with his contribution," he said.
Solskjaer also admitted that a draw was probably the fair result, with neither United or Everton doing enough to win the game.
"It was a game of two halves - first half, we were excellent," he added.
"But a very strange start, you shouldn’t be 1-0 down like that.
"After that we played fantastic football and we should have been leading at half time, we could have won it at the end. We defended all second half and pleased with a point.
"One point each, is what both teams deserve we had the first half and they had the second."
