Man Utd: Nicol slams Solskjaer over Fernandes comparison
Manchester United players and staff have decided January signing Bruno Fernandes must be their main “reference” on the pitch, says former Tottenham boss Tim Sherwood. Fernandes has had an impressive start to life at United following his £46.6million move from Sporting Lisbon in January. The Portugal international scored his first goal for the club from the penalty spot in the 3-0 win over Watford on Sunday.
Fernandes also grabbed an assist and played a big part in the other goal at Old Trafford.
Sherwood says the 25-year-old midfielder has already shown his quality in a United shirt and people at the club have recognised during training sessions he must get the ball as much as possible on the pitch.
“[I have been] really impressed,” Sherwood told Premier League Productions.
“I think [after] the opportunity of the rest of the players and the management to have a look at him close hand in training, he’s now the reference.

“Bruno has come in to be a very important player. We’ve needed that type of player. He knows he’s here to play.
“One of the good things about him is he takes risks with the ball, like Veron did.
“I used to love playing with Seba because you’d run and you’d get the ball. If he doesn’t hit you, at least he’s looking for you and that’s what Bruno does.
“That will encourage players to make more runs, I hope, because there aren’t enough of them still.”

Fernandes was left delighted having scored for the Red Devils for the first time.
“It feels so good,” he told MUTV.
“For me, it’s another dream come true. These last few weeks have been amazing for me and the team.
“We drew against Wolves, but, after that, we had good games, away against Chelsea and home against Watford today, but I’m really happy about the three points and we are [moving] up in the table.”
