Juan Mata warning over Europa League clash
Manchester United star Juan Mata has warned his team-mates not to underestimate Club Brugge.
The Red Devils head to Belgium on Thursday night for the first leg of their Europa League Round of 32 tie.
“They’re a good Belgium team and I remember when they played in the Champions League, so they’re a team that has good experience in European competitions and they won’t be afraid of playing against us,” said Mata.
“We’ll try to go through and we’ll remember the good memories we have from the Europa League and Stockholm in the final against Ajax when we won [in 2017]. It’s a really nice competition to win.”
Solskjaer reacts to Ighalo’s Chelsea miss
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer couldn’t help but exclaim “B*****d”, after Odion Ighalo missed a big chance against Chelsea on Monday night.
The January signing found himself clean through in a one-on-one chance against Chelsea.
But, his short was saved by goalkeeper Willy Caballero, denying the 30-year-old a debut goal.
Solskjaer’s reaction was joined by a rueful grin, knowing how important it is for strikers to get off to a good start at a new club, according to The Athletic.
Ed Woodward finds Paul Pogba replacement?
United may have found their ideal Paul Pogba replacement in Bruno Fernandes, writes Express Sport’s Jack Otway.
The Portugal international put in a solid performance against Chelsea on Monday night, and the midfielder acted as a leader in Solskjaer’s team.
“There’s an acceptance behind the scenes at United that it’s best if they sell him this summer, with Juventus and Real Madrid leading the charge,” he said.
“In Fernandes, though, the club may already have the perfect replacement.”
Harry Maguire targetted by Michy Batshuayi
Manchester United defender Harry Maguire has been targetted on Instagram by Chelsea star Michy Batshuayi.
Maguire was lucky to escape a red card against Chelsea on Monday night, after appearing to raise his boot at Batshuayi.
Batshuayi, however, wasn’t convinced, and made his frustration clear on Instagram.
The Belgium international screenshotted an image of Maguire’s boot coming into contact with his groin, and published the picture on his Instagram story.
He simply captioned the image with a ‘thinking face’ emoji, hinting that he wasn’t happy with the referee and VAR decision to keep Maguire on the pitch.
