Man Utd want Edinson Cavani transfer deal as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer chases Chelsea target
Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is trying to beat Chelsea to the January transfer window signing of Paris Saint-Germain striker Edinson Cavani, after leading goalscorer Marcus Rashford was ruled out for around six weeks with an injury.

Manchester United are interested in signing want-away striker Edinson Cavani from Paris Saint-Germain. The Red Devils are keen to find a short-term replacement for Marcus Rashford, who faces a long spell on the sidelines through injury. But, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer faces competition from Premier League rivals Chelsea for his signature.
United expressed an interest in the Uruguay international after he submitted a transfer request on Sunday night, Express Sport understands.
Solskjaer’s interest was peaked after PSG sporting director Leonardo confirmed that Atletico Madrid had already made a bid for Cavani.
The Red Devils have been linked with a move for a new striker this month, after Rashford picked up an injury in the FA Cup clash against Wolves last week.
Solskjaer may be forced to rely on youngster Mason Greenwood in Rashford’s absence, as he’s the only recognised striker in the squad.

But, if United to do want to sign Cavani, they face stiff competition from Chelsea.
Blues boss Frank Lampard admitted on Monday that he’s a big fan of the striker, and that the club were looking to recruit some experienced stars over the coming transfer windows.
Lampard was asked about a move for Cavani, after PSG confirmed that the forward had submitted a transfer request.
PSG’s leading all-time goalscorer wants to leave the club to get more game-time elsewhere.

“I’m not absolutely aware of what the situation is, so we’ll see,” the Chelsea manager said. “He’s a great player.
“I played against him and I always loved his mentality and attitude, and obviously his goal scoring record speaks for itself.”
Lampard also admitted that it may be helpful to sign a player with years of experience playing at the highest level.
“I think we are young, and we know about the transitions, but the idea of bringing in experience is something I’m certainly not absolutely looking away from,” he added.
