Liverpool vs Man Utd: Pundits discuss Firmino’s goal
VAR officials were “very surprised” that referee Craig Pawson did not initially award a foul on Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea in the first half of their match at Liverpool. With Liverpool leading 1-0, the Reds thought they had doubled their advantage through Roberto Firmino. Pawson did not deem there to be a foul on De Gea moments before Firmino scored as Virgil van Dijk jumped to challenge the goalkeeper.

Souness also was heavily critical of VAR and said Van Dijk could not have done anything else.
“How much fairer could Van Dijk have gone for that ball?” Souness said.
“How much in a more honest way could he have gone for the ball? He’s never looked at the goalkeeper, he’s got eyes only for the ball, and if your starting position is that a goalkeeper cannot be touched, then that’s a foul.
“But that’s not the rule, he’s gone for it as fairly as he possibly could. Under no circumstances is that a foul, under no circumstances.

However, Evra agreed with VAR that the goal should have been disallowed.
“It’s a foul, easy. He went with his head, he’s touching the arm of David de Gea,” the Frenchman said.
