Jones’ goal was what really set Anfield alight, however.
The 18-year-old let loose on a 25-yard curler when he picked the ball up outside the box in the 75th minute of the game.
His effort dipped and kissed the underside of the bar before nestling in the corner of the net, which Jordan Pickford’s left hand had no chance of keeping from bulging.
"The ball came to me and I only had one thing in mind – to shoot. Luckily enough it led to the match-winner and a great goal,” Jones said of his goal.
