Manchester United star Anthony Martial’s wife has blasted Tottenham manager Jose Mourinho. The France international struggled under the Spurs boss during their time together at Old Trafford.
Martial had been Manchester United’s top scorer the previous season when Mourinho swaggered into town as Louis van Gaal’s replacement in 2016.
However, right from the off, the duo encountered problems.
Martial was furious at having to give up his No 9 shirt for Mourinho favourite Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who signed on a free transfer from Ligue 1 titans PSG.
And the duo’s problems lasted the entirety of the Portuguese’s Old Trafford reign, only ending with Mourinho’s departure in December last year.
Now, Martial’s wife has launched a stinging attack on the current Tottenham manager, insisting her husband suffered under his tutelage.

“During our first two years together in Manchester, I experienced a very difficult period because Jose Mourinho did not play him (between 2016 and 2018),” Melanie Martial Da Cruz said during an interview with L’Equipe.
“In these cases, Anthony shuts himself out.
“You know he’s suffering, but he doesn’t say it.
“I felt trapped in my sense of injustice because, as a wife, you can’t say anything (to the coach).
“We’re just watching our man go down. I was experiencing it so badly that I didn’t go to certain events so as not to meet the coach.”

Mourinho wanted to sell Martial and tried to in both 2017 and 2018.
However, on both occasions, the Tottenham manager was told by the United hierarchy that an exit wouldn’t be happening.
Meanwhile, Martial was recently asked about Mourinho.
And he backed the Tottenham boss to steer his side up the Premier League table, saying: “Yes, I have been surprised because they had a good season last time around.
“[They] managed to make it to the Champions League final, so I was expecting them to be doing better.
“But I’m sure they will manage to bounce back and climb up the table.
“I have no doubts that they will because they have a good side with some great players.”
United are next in Premier League action against Burnley today (7.45pm).
Mourinho’s Tottenham, meanwhile, tackle Norwich at Carrow Road (5.30pm).
