Man City: Pep Guardiola denies early exit clause in contract
Manchester City legend Vincent Kompany has urged his former club to extend Pep Guardiola’s stay as manager. The Catalan coach is tied to the Premier League champions until the end of next season but speculation about his future is still rife.
Guardiola lost his assistant manager Mikel Arteta to Arsenal last week and has cut a more sombre figure this season as Liverpool have exerted their dominance on the league.
Kompany left City last season after 11 years at the club to become player-manager of Anderlecht and has been touted as a potential successor to Guardiola.
But the Belgian shrugged off those claims in a conversation with Sky Sports, saying: “I am not thinking about that.
"My ambition is right now to be successful with a project and deliver that successfully.

"If I was in a deciding position at City now, I would do everything I can to keep Pep for as long as I can.
“He is truly the best. To say anyone will ever come near, it is speculating in a ludicrous way.”
Guardiola has won five major honours in three-and-a-half years with City, including the last two Premier League titles which were sealed with an aggregate total of 198 points.
The former Barcelona and Bayern Munich coach’s league achievements in England are unprecedented but he has never stayed longer than four seasons at one club.
