Liverpool star Trent Alexander-Arnold was lucky to stay on the pitch in the 5-2 win over Everton, Peter Crouch has claimed, as the defender suffered a rare off night despite earning the local bragging rights. Two goals from Divock Origi and one apiece from Xherdan Shaqiri, Sadio Mane and Georginio Wijnaldum ensured Liverpool maintained their eight-point lead at the Premier League summit.
Crouch then claimed that Alexander-Arnold may have let the emotion of being a local lad, get the better of him, given that the England full-back knows how much the match means to supporters.
“Over the course of history it was always the local lads that seemed to get in trouble,” Crouch added.
“I remember [Steven] Gerrard, Francis Jeffers, it always used to spill over.
“As we were talking about before, it means so much for them that sometimes it can spill over. But he got away with it today.”
The 21-year-old was subbed off late in the second half for Joe Gomez.

Thierry Henry believes the decision from Jurgen Klopp was a precaution to protect him from being shown red.
“I think that’s why Joe Gomez came on, to make sure it wasn’t going to happen [red card] on something towards the end,” Henry said.
“Maybe that’s why we didn’t see someone else coming on [Mohamed Salah].”
