Man City team news: Predicted 4-3-3 line up vs Chelsea – Ederson latest, Silva banned
Manchester City are set to welcome Ederson back to their starting XI when Pep Guardiola's men return to Premier League action against Chelsea this afternoon (5.30pm).
Ederson is expected to return from injury when Manchester City host Chelsea at the Etihad later today, replacing Claudio Bravo between the posts.
The Brazilian stopper has been sidelined with a muscle problem sustained during the Champions League win over Atalanta, causing him to miss the 3-1 defeat to Liverpool last time out.
Ederson is expected to return against the Blues, although the reigning Premier League champions will still be without several key first-team players.
When asked if Ederson was fit to face Chelsea, Guardiola said: “Yep. He trained the last two or three days without pain.”
However, the news was less positive when the Spaniard was pressed on the fitness of Oleksandr Zinchenko, Aymeric Laporte and Leroy Sane.
“The same situation,” explained Guardiola.
“The players who finished fit against Liverpool, they are fit, the injured players are still injured for two or three more months.”
Additionally, City will be without Bernardo Silva this weekend as the Portuguese midfielder serves a one-match ban for admitting a breach of FA Rules regarding a tweet sent to team-mate Benjamin Mendy.
His absence means both Raheem Sterling and Riyad Mahrez are expected to start in support of either Sergio Aguero or Gabriel Jesus in attack.
Rodri is likely to be preferred to Ilkay Gundogan at the base of midfield, joining the experienced duo of Kevin De Bruyne and David Silva.
Kyle Walker faces competition from Joao Cancelo at right-back but Mendy should start ahead of Angelino on the opposite flank.
And Guardiola will continue to avoid pairing John Stones and Nicolas Otamendi in central defence, instead playing the former next to the versatile Fernandinho.
