Man Utd ace Victor Lindelof explains extra motivation to succeed at Old Trafford
Manchester United star Victor Lindelof has admitted that he’s had problems with self-confidence at Old Trafford, but revealed he has extra motivation to succeed under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
Manchester United defender Victor Lindelof wants to succeed for his son, he admitted.
The centre-back has struggled with self-belief during his time in the Premier League, but think about his son gives him extra energy.
Lindelof and his wide, Maja, welcomed their first child in March, earlier this year.
The baby was delivered three weeks earlier than its due date, as there were complications with the pregnancy.
Everything I do now, I do for him
The Sweden international revealed that his son gives him the motivation to work harder every day.
Simply seeing him smile helps him to train hard to become better and better.
It’s a welcomed addition to his family, as he struggled with self-confidence at Manchester United when he first joined.
He admitted that he’d avoid attempting more clinical passes, in favour of playing a simple ball to a team-mate instead.
“I know what player I should be and I have to play in a certain way,” Lindelof told Sport Bladet.
“If I miss a pass then I will keep trying again, playing with risk even if I missed, I think I learned it.
“It has taken several years. It is easy to start choosing the simple options if you have missed a few passes, it is about relying on yourself.
“I’ve established myself in United, am in the starting 11 every week, so I’ve come a little way. Now it is important to work, work, work to be able to dream of becoming one of the best in the world. I know I have that capacity.
“If I don’t believe in myself – who’s going to do it? I have to believe it to be able to put this work down every day. Get up, go to work out even though it is raining, and give it everything.
“I do it for myself. And now I do it for my son too. How do I explain… I can’t find the right words now.
“He gives me the power to cope even more. I wake up and see him happy, get extra energy. Everything I do now, I do for him.”
United signed Lindelof from Benfica in 2017. He’s since more than 80 appearances for the Red Devils, scoring a single goal.
