Manchester City would like to keep Pep Guardiola for many years and have him build a legacy similar to Sir Alex Ferguson and Arsene Wenger’s.
In the next six months Guardiola will have established himself as City’s longest-serving manager since Tony Book in the 1970s but he doesn’t appear keen on staying for too much longer.
According to The Athletic, the Double champions would like to change that by having the Catalan stay for a long time and build a kind of legacy similar to what Ferguson and Wenger did at Manchester United and Arsenal respectively.
However, Guardiola is not wired this way as he is always led by his convictions and that doesn’t allow him to stay for too long at any club.
The 48-year-old stayed at Barcelona for four years even though he had the ability to raise the bar much higher than he already did at the Nou Camp.
He then moved to Bayern Munich where he spent three years before agreeing to join City in 2016.
Guardiola’s contract at the Etihad runs up until June 2021 and it is not yet certain if he will extend it.
The Spaniard showed signs that the pressures of his work has a negative affect on him before resigning as Barcelona manager in 2012.

The former midfielder also hinted that the routine also took a toll.
Guardiola said seven years ago: “The reason is simple: four years is enough.
"I'm drained and I need to fill up. The demand has been very high and a manager must be strong.
"At the beginning of December I announced to the chairman that I was seeing the end of my era at Barcelona.
