Man Utd boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer issues Marcus Rashford and Harry Maguire injury updates
Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has reassured Red Devils fans over the injury status of Harry Maguire and Marcus Rashford ahead of Saturday’s game against Bournemouth.
Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer reassured fans that both Harry Maguire and Marcus Rashford should be able to play against Bournemouth on Sunday.
Both Rashford and Maguire both suffered knocks against Chelsea on Wednesday night in the Carabao Cup.
Rashford was taken off for Ashley Young with ten minutes remaining, after the forward’s two goals won the Red Devils the game.
Maguire suffered a dead leg in the 83rd minute, after he prevented Kurt Zouma from hearing in a corner.
He wasn’t able to come off, however, as United had used all three substitutions beforehand.
Maguire looked in serious pain after the knock, but played on regardless.
Speaking after the game, Solskjaer played down both injuries, and suggested both will be able to play this weekend.
“We’re playing football, it’s not basketball,” he said.
“Some of them are sore, but you should be absolutely down on your knees after a game of football, because it’s worth it when you win a game.
“They [Rashford and Maguire] are quick healers and let’s hope they’re ready for Saturday.”
Rashford scored a beautiful free-kick after his first-half penalty was cancelled out by Michy Batshuayi’s screamer.
And Solskjear was full of praise for the young attacker, 22 today, for scoring this first penalty of the season.
“He’s got a great mentality and a great character,” he continued.
“I told him this morning ‘if we get a penalty, you take it. Just make your mind up where you’re going to put it and hit it as sweet as you like’.“
United take on Bournemouth at Dean Court on Saturday [12.30pm KO].
