Man Utd: Solskjaer has a plan for years claims Rashford
Manchester United duo Marcus Rashford and Jesse Lingard helped Ole Gunnar Solskjaer sign Harry Maguire from Leicester in the summer, according to reports.
The Red Devils forked out a huge £85million to secure Maguire's signature in the summer, making him the most-expensive defender of all time in the process.
Manchester City were also interested in the England international in the wake of their decision to let club captain and leader Vincent Kompany leave for Anderlecht.
And the Manchester Evening News say Rashford and Lingard both helped Solskjaer beat City to Maguire's signing.
It is claimed the duo helped convince Maguire that his future was at Old Trafford, rather than the Etihad Stadium.
City supposedly outlined their desire to sign the 26-year-old when United agreed an £80m fee up front for the centre-back.
But Rashford and Lingard's influence ultimately saw Maguire head to the Red Devils, where he has impressed despite their difficult start to the season.
The United star enjoyed a good outing as the club drew 1-1 with Liverpool on Sunday, managing to prevent Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino from wreaking havoc.
And Maguire has hinted there's more to come, recently saying: "I think it's the long term, that's what the main thing is.

"In five or six years' time, judge me then - whether I have been a success at this club or not.
"And I do believe and am really confident that, in five or six years’ time, I’ll be a success and I am sure we’ll have many, many good times here.
“We need to keep improving as a team, not just me as an individual. I feel, if we improve as a team, I'll be a success too.”
However, former Tottenham star Raphael van der Vaart isn't sold on Maguire and believes Liverpool's Virgil van Dijk is significantly better.
“He can do something, but if he is worth so much money, Virgil van Dijk is worth £300million,” he told Dutch TV channel Ziggo.
