“A well known agent has contacted Massilimiliano Allegri representatives in the last seven days to find out whether or not he would be interested in taking over from Marco Silva if he was to be sacked,” McGarry said on Reach PLC’s Transfer Window Podcast.
“This is a normal process and what we cannot confirm is if this was instructed by Everton, these things often happen in this way.”
Allegri guided Juventus to five league titles before quitting last season and the Italian is understood to be looking at making a switch to the Premier League.
The 52-year-old has also been linked with replacing Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at Manchester United, as they currently sit 12th in the table after a miserable start to their league campaign.

Everton finished 8th in the league last season and the club backed Silva in the transfer market in the summer, with the Toffees spending more than £100million on players.
The 42-year-old managed to bring in several stars, including striker Moise Kean from Juventus for £29million, winger Alex Iwobi from Arsenal for £34m, as well as Fabian Delph from Manchester City for £10m and midfield Andre Gomes from Barcelona for £22m.
However, as Silva prepares his side to take on the Hammers at Goodison Park for the lunch-time kick-off, he admitted pressure isn’t a problem for him.
"For me, pressure is never a problem and it is something I try to pass to my players every single day," he said.

Marco Silva: Everton ‘have gone backwards’ says Ray Parlour
"Pressure is really good.
"It means you are at a club that wants to win, a club with big ambition, and it is the reality of our position.
"Pressure for us as a professional has to be a privilege, a pleasure, because it means we are doing what we really love, that we are working in a football club which is demanding for ourselves."
