Liverpool are showing a Man Utd Premier League title-winning trait - Michael Owen
Liverpool maintained their perfect start to the Premier League season with a dramatic late win over Leicester City.
Liverpool’s ability to score late winners is a key Premier League title-winning trait Manchester United used to have, according to Michael Owen.
Liverpool have won all eight league matches so far this season and sit eight points clear of second-placed Manchester City at the top of the table.
Last time out against Leicester they had to rely on a stoppage-time winner from James Milner to seal a 2-1 victory.
United were famous for pulling off late wins during the reign of legendary manager Sir Alex Ferguson.
Liverpool managed to do it and who knows, it might be a sign of future champions
And Owen says if Liverpool can continue to build up that trait, they will go a long way to sealing their first ever Premier League title.
“Well I think we’ve seen it so many times over the years,” Owen told Premier League Productions.
“It’s a great trait in many teams. I think when you look back at Manchester United in their glory years everybody used to complain about 'Fergie time' and about the amount of goals they scored late on.
“But I think once you start doing it once or twice, you start believing that it’s going to happen and then it becomes almost a habit.
“Once you’ve got that you’ve got another string to your bow I think, going right to the end, believing that you’re going to score late on is a great strength to have.
“Of course Liverpool managed to do it and who knows, it might be a sign of future champions.”
United and Liverpool go head-to-head this Sunday at Old Trafford in the Premier League (4.30pm).
It is safe to say the two sides head into the match with differing form behind them.
Liverpool will be aiming to extend their 100 per cent start to the campaign.
Meanwhile, 12th-placed United are looking for just their third win in their ninth match.
