Man Utd urged to make key decision to solve problems - ‘The answer’s so obvious’
Manchester United have suffered their first start to a season for 30 years.
Man Utd: Woodward should be 'nowhere near' club says pundit
Manchester United must remove all football responsibilities away from executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward, claims talkSPORT presenter Georgie Bingham.
Woodward has been heavily criticised ever since taking the job at United in 2013.
The 47-year-old had no background in making football-related decisions before then but is now in charge of new signings as well as the hiring and firing of managers at Old Trafford.
Bingham claims manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is out of his depth at United but says the answer to the club’s problems is changing Woodward’s role.
The answer’s so obvious, that Woodward should be nowhere near the football business
“Manchester United is kind of lurching from crisis to crisis when the answer’s so obvious, that Woodward should be nowhere near the football business,” she said.
“He’s good at commercial, he’s not good at [the football business].
“That would be like putting me in charge of the football business.
“I am not a scout, I am not a technical director, I’m not an administrator, I don’t have the ability to know what it takes to put together a football squad.
“Nor does Ole, he hasn’t got a clue. And Rio Ferdinand as technical director I’d argue as well maybe not.
“[Solskjaer] should never be near that job, let’s be honest. He should never be near that job.”
Bingham’s co-presenter Tony Cascarino agrees United need to make key changes at the top.
“The top of the club needs rethinking of how they manage that football club because you need footballing people who are going to be behind some of the big decisions that that club needs,” Cascarino said.
“Ole is quite a rookie as a manager, he’s not someone who’s established and been a manager for years and years.
“[Solskjaer’s appointment] was a decision that they made at that football club.
“He had a wonderful start, that’s obviously eroded and it’s now at a level where they’ve been on a bad run, bad performances, players not good enough to be in that football team and you can go from midfielders to forwards.”
