Christian Pulisic advised what he must do to change Frank Lampard's mind at Chelsea
Chelsea ace Christian Pulisic is currently not a first pick for head coach Frank Lampard.
Christian Pulisic must prove in training he is a better option for Frank Lampard at Chelsea than Mason Mount and Callum Hudson-Odoi, claims former Arsenal midfielder Stewart Robson.
Pulisic has struggled for game time at Chelsea this season following his arrival from Borussia Dortmund.
The USA winger has not started a Premier League game since August and the return to fitness of Hudson-Odoi has made his chances of selection more difficult.
Academy graduate Mount has started every league game under Lampard this season, scoring four goals in his eight outings.
He’s got to prove that he’s better than those two players that Frank Lampard at the moment is preferring
Robson says to push his case for selection, Pulisic must show in training he is as good as or better than Hudson-Odoi or Mount.
Robson believes Pulisic can do just that in training sessions a couple of days after a match, where the English duo are slightly more tired.
“Every day he goes into training, he’s got to be better than those two,” Robson told ESPN FC.
“When those two players, Hudson-Odoi and Mason Mount, have worked hard on the Saturday and they’ve played a full game and then they come in on Monday and they can’t quite work at full pace, that’s when Pulisic has got to take the opportunity.
“He’s got to play better than them in training, he’s got to run harder, he’s got to go past people with the ball, he’s got to make things happen and then have a little look over to Frank Lampard and say ‘I’m ready’.
“He’s got to do that week in, week out, day in, day out to prove he’s as good if not better than those players we are talking about.
“He’s a young player, yes, but he’s got to prove that he’s better than those two players that Frank Lampard at the moment is preferring.”
