Man Utd team news: Predicted 4-2-3-1 line up vs AZ Alkmaar – Anthony Martial injury update
Manchester United will be without Anthony Martial for their Europa League clash with AZ Alkmaar at the AFAS Stadium tonight (5.55pm BST).
Man United: Solskjaer reveals injuries ahead of AZ Alkmaar game
Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has confirmed Anthony Martial will not be able to feature against AZ Alkmaar due to injury.
The Frenchman has missed the last five games due to a hamstring problem and is still short of match fitness.
However, Solskjaer did reveal that a return to the starting XI is not too far away for Martial.
Speaking about Martial after the 1-1 draw with Arsenal on Monday, Solskjaer said: “Maybe the weekend [against Newcastle United, he will be back] but if not, after the weekend. Definitely not Thursday.”
Paul Pogba is also expected to miss out after aggravating an ankle injury during the Premier League clash with the Gunners.
The World Cup winner managed the full 90 minutes at Old Trafford but reportedly complained of pain following the match and will be assessed nearer kick-off.
Marcus Rashford is another who is not likely to be risked, with the England international having made a surprising return from injury against Arsenal.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka missed United’s match on Monday due to tonsillitis and Solskjaer is unsure whether the full-back will travel to Holland while Phil Jones is carrying a knock from the Carabao Cup win over Rochdale.
United made nine changes for their opening group stage win over Astana and are likely to shuffle their squad again with goalscorer Mason Greenwood expected to get the nod.
Jesse Lingard is set to retain his starting berth but Juan Mata could come in for Andreas Pereira while Angel Gomes may be given a chance to impress if Daniel James is rested.
Fred and Nemanja Matic should come in for Pogba and Scott McTominay while Marcos Rojo will line up at left-back with Luke Shaw doubtful.
Axel Tuanzebe deputised there against Arsenal and could move centrally if one of Victor Lindelof or Harry Maguire are rested while Diogo Dalot is an option at right-back and Sergio Romero should replace David de Gea.
