MANCHESTER UNITED boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been told who should partner Harry Maguire in the Red Devils’ defence.
Man United: Lindelof should partner Maguire says pundit
Maguire looks set to complete an £80million move to Manchester United from Leicester.
A fee was agreed with Leicester on Sunday and a medical was due on Monday.
Maguire will become the world’s most expensive defender, overtaking Virgil van Dijk who cost Liverpool £75m in January 2018.
United have a number of centre-backs who could slot in alongside Maguire in the starting XI.
I think the way Lindelof finished the season, yeah [he should partner Maguire]
English duo Chris Smalling and Phil Jones have both signed new contracts in the last eight months.
Eric Bailly struggled with injuries last season, with Victor Lindelof gaining regular game time under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
Former Arsenal striker Paul Mariner reckons Lindelof, who has been linked with a move to Barcelona, is the best option to partner Maguire.
And he is also impressed with United’s new right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka.
“I think the way Lindelof finished the season, yeah [he should partner Maguire],” Mariner told ESPN FC.
“If they’re going to keep him, because there are rumours he’s going to be going.
“Wan-Bissaka, I like Wan-Bissaka as a player.
“As a full-back, at least he defends, at least he does his job. And he can help you going forward.”
Liverpool legend Steve Nicol says the signings of Wan-Bissaka and Maguire make Manchester United stronger at the back.
“It makes [the defence] way stronger,” Nicol said.
“They’re both good signings.
“You could argue about the money all day but the fact is the both of them are way better than what they’ve got right now.”
