Man Utd told the one striker they must sign if they sell Romelu Lukaku
MANCHESTER UNITED should only sell Romelu Lukaku if they bring in Diego Costa as his replacement.
Man United: Sam Allardyce predicts likely replacement for Lukaku
That is the opinion of former England and Everton manager Sam Allardyce.
Lukaku is understood to be keen on a move away from Manchester United this summer.
The Belgium international fell out of favour at Old Trafford last season under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
Solskjaer is keen on keeping Lukaku but Inter Milan are interested in signing him and the 26-year-old has previously claimed their manager Antonio Conte is the best in the world.
Not unless I was getting Costa. I might say yes to that
Diego Costa, meanwhile, has been linked with a return to the Premier League after making just 19 La Liga appearances for Atletico Madrid last season.
The future of the former Chelsea frontman was topic of discussion on talkSPORT on Thursday morning.
Former United striker Alan Brazil was working alongside Allardyce.
And Brazil suggested Costa would be a good signing for the Red Devils.
“I think he’d be a fit for United if they got rid of Lukaku,” he said.
“Lukaku by all accounts this morning, representatives of Inter Milan are talking to Manchester United.
“If you were manager of Manchester United, you would not sell him.”
Allardyce replied: “Lukaku? No.
“Not unless I was getting Costa. I might say yes to that.”
Lukaku has scored 42 goals for United in 96 appearances since joining from Everton in 2017.
He has travelled with the squad for their pre-season tour to Australia but did not train with the rest of the squad on Thursday.
