Harry Maguire backed to make Man Utd transfer decision amid Man City interest
HARRY MAGUIRE must reject any transfer approach from Manchester United and join rivals Manchester City instead.
That is the opinion of former Rangers striker and manager Ally McCoist.
Maguire has been linked with a move to both Manchester clubs following a fine season for club and country.
Leicester are thought to want a staggering £80million for the 26-year-old’s services.
That would make Maguire the world’s most expensive defender, eclipsing the £75m Liverpool paid Southampton for Virgil van Dijk in January 2018.
Where are you going to win things? It’s a no-brainer
McCoist says money should not come into the equation for Maguire, as he would earn a huge wage at either Manchester United or Manchester City.
However, he claims it is clear back-to-back Premier League champions City would be the better choice due to their chances of winning further silverware compared to United.
“It tells you where United are and where they’ve fallen,” McCoist said on talkSPORT.
“If I’m Harry Maguire, clearly wages won’t be a problem whether it’s United or City.
“So where are you going to win things?
“It’s a no-brainer.”
Meanwhile, on Saturday Maguire liked a fan’s comment on Instagram which read “You’re going to be a fan favourite at Manchester United.”
However, United fans’ excitement was short lived as Maguire claimed it was an accident.
“I didn’t mean to guys… we’ve all been there,” he tweeted.
Maguire made 31 Premier League appearances for Leicester last season, scoring three goals.
He has a contract at the King Power until the summer of 2023.
