Manchester United urged to sign FIVE players with Gareth Bale money by ESPN pundit
MANCHESTER UNITED should not sign Gareth Bale from Real Madrid - and must spend the money on up to five other new players instead.
Real Madrid: Bale CAN’T return to Premier League says pundit
That is according to Liverpool legend and ESPN FC pundit Steve Nicol.
Bale is once again linked with a move to Manchester United this summer.
The Wales star has fallen out of favour at Real Madrid and manager Zinedine Zidane is clearly not a fan of the four-time Champions League winner.
However, Bale still has three years left on his contract at the Bernabeu so is likely to attract a large fee to go with his mega weekly wages.
Manchester United have to go and sign four or five proven players that can actually get it done
Bale has struggled with injury problems in recent seasons and Nicol says it would be the wrong move for United to spend big on a player with fitness concerns such as his.
He says they should instead splash the cash on multiple players rather than a large chunk on the 29-year-old.
“If you physically struggle to play for any length of time in La Liga, do you think you’re going to go to the Premier League and play a full season?” Nicol said.
“Now, that’s okay if you’re a half decent player on half decent money, you can be part of the squad.
“But you can’t be going paying the amount of money he’s going to be looking for in a transfer fee from Madrid and then wages.
“So where is this guy going to go? I don’t know where he goes.
“How many games is this guy [going to be fit for] if you can’t play the equivalent of half a season in La Liga?
“How can he go [to United]?
“They’ve already got a brick round their neck with [Alexis] Sanchez on £300,000-a-week.
“They’re going to sign Gareth Bale who they know won’t be able to play a full season, who’s going to be on silly money as well.
“Manchester United have to go and sign four or five proven players that can actually get it done.
“How can they afford it?”
