Man Utd urged to complete huge summer deal - ‘It would be like having Giggs and Beckham’
MANCHESTER UNITED should do all they can to thrash out a swap deal with Real Madrid in which Paul Pogba and Gareth Bale head in opposite directions.
Man United: Castles suggest which players could be sold
That is the opinion of former Everton and Wales goalkeeper Neville Southall.
Reports claim Real Madrid are keen on including Bale in any deal that sees Pogba head to the Bernabeu.
Bale has been a target of Manchester United in the past and the winger has struggled for game time in recent months.
He has also struggled with injury problems in recent seasons and is clearly not a favourite of manager Zinedine Zidane.
If I looked at Bale to Man United, it would be like having Giggs and Beckham
Meanwhile, Paul Pogba is said to be keen on a move to Real after previously saying it was a dream to play for the La Liga giants.
Southall says it is a no-brainer for United to get Gareth Bale in exchange for Pogba.
He claims the 29-year-old is a mixture between two United legends Ryan Giggs and David Beckham.
“If I looked at Bale to Man United, it would be like having [Ryan] Giggs and [David] Beckham,” Southall told talkSPORT.
“He’s got genuine pace. Gareth’s in a great position, he’s on £600,000-a-week.
“They [Real Madrid] have got to do something with him, they either play him or shove him off.
“If they shove him off they’ve got to pay him off and he can pick where he goes.
“If you’re saying he’s part of the Pogba deal, I’d rather have somebody that runs about every week, tries his best and turns up to produce magic than somebody who doesn’t care.
Real Madrid: Gareth Bale 'has to go' claims Steve Nicol
“If I’ve got a group of younger people underneath the first-team and I’m saying ‘look, you’ve got to try every week’, and then they look at Pogba and go ‘no you don’t, he’s 90 million quid, he doesn’t try’.
“And then you’ve got Bale who turns up all the time and does everything you want.
“I know who I’d rather have.”
