Dejan Lovren nailed Liverpool promise after Champions League final Real Madrid loss
DEJAN LOVREN kept to his Liverpool promise he made after last season's Champions League final defeat to Real Madrid.
The Croatian was arguably the Reds best player on the night in Kiev as they suffered a 3-1 defeat 12 months ago.
Speaking after falling short in Ukraine, Lovren made a promise to Liverpool supporters.
"It's painful. It's painful to describe," he said.
"It's heartbreaking to be honest.
"I'm sure we will come back next year even stronger.
"And I promise that."
On Friday Lovren took to Instagram to inform supporters that he had not forgotten the declaration.
"Promise is a Promise! We are ready for tomorrow," he said, uploading a picture of the quote from May 2018.
Lovren was an unused substitute in Madrid as Jurgen Klopp's side won the club's sixth European Cup.
He has fallen down the pecking order this season due to a number of reasons.
The former Southampton man has struggled for fitness as times, but Joel Matip has been faultless alongside Virgil van Dijk since Joe Gomez broke his leg in December.
For once, Lovren's comments have not come back to haunt him.
He has built a reputation for saying things that leave Liverpool supporters cringing, but luckily this vow paid off.
Last summer he explained that he was one of the best defenders in the world, before losing the World Cup final to France.
Liverpool flew back to Merseyside on Sunday morning before parading the city on an open top bus.
They will look to go one better next season and win the Premier League title.
