What Barcelona fans at Anfield did as Liverpool ace Trent Alexander-Arnold clapped them
BARCELONA fans classily applauded Trent Alexander-Arnold after the Liverpool ace went over and clapped them at Anfield following the Reds’ incredible Champions League comeback.
Alexander-Arnold helped give the comeback its wings as his perfectly-placed cross found Georgina Wijnaldum to add to Divock Origi’s first-half strike.
After Wijnaldum had bagged again, Alexander-Arnold’s swift-thinking as Barcelona’s defenders dozed allowed him to find Origi from a quickly-taken corner.
Origi finished with aplomb beyond the stunned Marc-Andre Ter Stegen, sparking jubilant scenes as Liverpool took the lead in the tie for the first time.
Liverpool held on as Barcelona rallied late on and could even have extended their lead as they looked to hit Ernesto Valverde’s side on the break.
Alexander-Arnold’s efforts did not go under-appreciated as the Anfield faithful poured their hearts out on the full-time whistle.
And Barcelona fans also recognised his contributions to the historic win, which was the first time a team bounced back from a 3-0 first-leg defeat in a Champions League semi-final.

Alexander-Arnold could be seen applauding the visiting support having written his name further into folklore on Merseyside.
And they returned the claps, hailing his and Liverpool’s stunning showing which booked their place in next month’s final in Madrid.
Alexander-Arnold’s brace of assists took the marauding full-back onto 14 for the season in all competitions, with 11 coming in the Premier League.
And he will be desperate to play a decisive part against Ajax or Tottenham when the showpiece final takes place at the Wanda Metropolitano.
