Mohamed Salah injury: Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp provides update after Newcastle clash
LIVERPOOL manager Jurgen Klopp confirmed that Mohamed Salah is okay, but will be subject to further assessments after suffering a sickening head injury in the Reds’ win over Newcastle.
Mo Salah injury: Klopp says star got a ‘PROPER knock’
Salah was stretchered off in the second half of the win, as Liverpool seemed destined for a draw.
The Egyptian scored Liverpool’s second goal of the game at St James’ Park, before Newcastle equalised early in the second half.
With 20 minutes remaining, however, Martin Dubravka took out Salah as he punched clear a cross into the box, and the forward was left laying on the floor in agony.
Sarah was in tears as the stretcher came on, as it appeared Liverpool’s season was falling apart at the seams.
However things turned for Klopp’s side as Divock Origi scored a winner with five minutes remaining to give Liverpool a critical win.
And afterwards, the German boss confirmed that things may not be as bad for Salah as they seemed.
“[Mo] watched the [rest of the] game inside, he was okay,” he said.
“He got a proper knock on the head. We need to do further assessments.”
Wow, that was a story. It was nearly a fairy tale
Liverpool now have one final game of the Premier League season remaining, and have the best chance in recent history to end their title drought of 29 years.
Anything less than a win for Manchester City on Monday against Leicester will ensure that the Reds will win the Premier League next Sunday with a win over Wolves.
And Klopp praised the efforts of Newcastle whilst referring to next Sunday’s final day as Liverpool’s “final.”
“We deserved to win, I really think we deserved to win,” he told the BBC.
“This moment, such a wonderful cross from Shari, and the header, wow, that’s a story. It was nearly a fairytale.
“Now we are qualified for the final. Our final will be on Sunday against Wolves.
“Of course, we have to play Barcelona before that, but honestly that’s not in my mind right now.”
