Celtic legend Chris Sutton issues demand that Rangers fans will HATE
CELTIC hero Chris Sutton has urged Rangers to ‘do the right thing’ and hand the Hoops a guard of honour next week.
Neil Lennon 'luckiest thing to happen to Celtic' says pundit
Celtic face Rangers next weekend after sealing an eighth consecutive Scottish Premiership title on Saturday.
It is traditional that title winners are given a guard of honour by opposing teams for the remainder of the season, but it has been ignored in the past.
Sutton, who won four league titles with Celtic between 2001 and 2006, hopes that Rangers complete the long-established routine at Ibrox next Sunday.
He said: "Superb achievement, 8 is great. Well done to Neil Lennon and the team.
“Hopefully Rangers do the right thing and Celtic get a guard of honour at Ibrox next week…”
After helping secure the club a 50th league title in Scotland, Lennon shocked fans by revealing how difficult he has found the season.
”It's been really tough,” Lennon told Sky Sports after Celtic’s 3-0 win over Aberdeen put them 12 points clear of Rangers with three games to play.
“I have to say it's been the toughest piece of management I've had to do.
"I know on the outside it looks easy, but it's difficult to go in on your own and pick it up.
"There was a lot of discontent and a bit of agitation, but the players have helped me and I'd like to think I've helped them.”
Lennon made the statement despite Celtic being eight points clear of Rangers at the top of the table when Brendan Rodgers left in February.
Rodgers allegedly left the club without speaking to his players, with whom he won the previous two Scottish Premiership titles.
Rangers: Gerrard gives injury update ahead of Celtic match
Lennon said of the Leicester boss: "I have to pay tribute to Brendan [Rodgers].
“He has to get a huge amount of credit. This title success is down to the foundations he laid here.
“I was lucky enough to carry it on.”
Celtic travel to Ibrox next Sunday to take as Steven Gerrard’s Rangers look to continue their impressive form by beating the champions.
