Rio Ferdinand reveals what Edwin van der Sar told him as Man Utd plot Old Trafford return
MANCHESTER UNITED legend Rio Ferdinand has spoken with former team-mate Edwin van der Sar about what it takes to be a chief executive officer.
Rio Ferdinand 'would sign Matthijs de Ligt' as football director
Van der Sar is the current CEO of Dutch side Ajax and the pair were pictured together before the Champions League semi-final against Tottenham on Tuesday.
Ferdinand has been lined up to potentially take the behind-the-scenes technical director role at Manchester United and Gary Lineker hinted at that when talking to the ex-England captain on BT Sport.
“I saw you chatting on the pitch to Edwin Van der Sar there,” Lineker said.
“Old friend, CEO, possible you were getting a few tips were you?
He was just telling me the ins and outs of what he actually gets up to there
“Possible future there? I’ve seen the rumours in the papers.”
Ferdinand admitted Van der Sar was telling him what his job entails.
But he refused to bite on Lineker’s reference to the United links.
“I think the game today is more important, we were talking about that," Ferdinand said.
“But lovely fella, doing a fantastic job.
“He was just telling me the ins and outs of what he actually gets up to there.
“He said it was very demanding but very satisfying when you’re at a level like this, playing at this stage in the tournament.”
It was not the only time Lineker referred to Ferdinand’s potential role at United though.
He asked whether Ferdinand would want to sign Ajax defender Matthijs de Ligt if he took a technical director role.
Ferdinand responded: “He’d be on the list of every top team, every top team out there he’d be on that list, definitely.
“I see where you’re going Gary.”
