Liverpool news: Former Reds striker makes Barcelona prediction - fans won't like it
LIVERPOOL icon Fernando Morientes has predicted that Barcelona will come out on top in tomorrow night's Champions League semi-final first leg.
The Spanish striker spent one-and-a-half seasons on Merseyside, scoring 12 goals in 60 games.
Having moved from Real Madrid in 2005, Morientes was unable to capture the same form shown in Spain.
And he moved back to his home country just a year later, signing a £3million deal with Valencia.
Despite his relatively short time at Anfield, he is still viewed as a cult hero on the Kop, however his latest comments are likely to upset the Liverpool faithful.
Speaking in Kuala Lumpar ahead of Wednesday’s game, he predicted that his old El Clasico rivals will emerge victorious in the tie.
He did, however, praise the attacking style of both sides.
“It’s going to be one of the best matches any fans could want in football,” he said.
“You just look at the attacking talents available on both sides.
“[Mohamed] Salah, [Roberto] Firmino and [Sadio] Mane on one side against [Lionel] Messi, [Luis] Suarez, [Philippe] Coutinho and [Ousmane] Dembele on the other.”
Barcelona secured the La Liga title on Sunday after beating Levante, and are now going for a historic treble this season.
They have already won the Supercopa, and will face Valencia in the Copa del Rey final next month.
And Morientes praised the form of the Catalan giants, whilst declaring his love for Liverpool.
“Barcelona are having a great season and as ambassador of La Liga, I want to see them do well,” he continued.
“But at the same time I have warm feelings for Liverpool from my two seasons with them.
“But if I have to choose, I would say it’s Barcelona to go through.”
