In a match where a positive result from Manchester Untied would have handed Liverpool the opportunity to win their first Premier League title in 29 years, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men disappointed.
Given Manchester City relentless form and United’s woes at Everton on Sunday, the result did not come as a surprise to many Kopites watching on from afar.
That includes manager Jurgen Klopp, who revealed ahead of his side’s match against Huddersfield that he did not expect anything more from United.
“United tried what they could. They were unlucky in moments but then they couldn't stand City."
If there was any fury hidden beneath the German’s big goofy smile, he was given the perfect chance to make it known.
He was asked how difficult it is to takeover a club mid-season and what he believes Ole Gunnar Solskjaer must do at United to turn things around, his response was emphatic.
He said: “They didn't help us, why should we help them?”

The win at Old Trafford means Manchester City are one point clear of the Reds with three games left to play.
Klopp’s troops will now look to dispatch already relegated Huddersfield on Friday, before hoping for a favour from Sean Dyche’s Burnley at the weekend.
"If we win our next two games then the title will be decided on the final match day and that would be pretty special. That's what we are concentrating on,” Klopp added.
"This is our first time trying to be champion, not the last time.
