Roy Keane and Graeme Souness both criticise same Man Utd star for what he did vs Man City
ROY KEANE and Graeme Souness both questioned one thing Marcus Rashford did during Manchester United’s clash with Manchester City on Wednesday.
Man United: Andy Gray questions Solskjaer's ability as manager
There was a controversial moment late in the first half of the Premier League match at Old Trafford.
Manchester United forward Jesse Lingard caught Manchester City midfielder Ilkay Gundogan with a late challenge.
Referee Andre Marriner waved away claims for a foul as Gundogan writhed on the floor in pain.
But United striker Marcus Rashford decided to kick the ball out when his team were on the attack.
The biggest discussion point is why did United kick the ball out?
And Souness and Keane questioned the decision at half time.
“The biggest discussion point is why did United kick the ball out?” Liverpool legend Souness said on Sky Sports.
“I thought it was head injuries only.”
Keane added: “Yeah it’s supposed to be head injuries where you kick the ball out.
“You would [carry on] in a derby game.
“Obviously he thought he was seriously injured but clearly he wasn’t too bad.
“It probably was a foul but the ref probably looked at the situation, Lingard, know your players, and hopefully the Manchester City player’s okay.”
Souness says the referee was wrong to not award a foul for Lingard’s tackle, but says a card would not have been necessary.
“I think it’s a foul but I don’t think there’s any intent in it,” Souness said.
“It’s not a good ball by Bernardo Silva, he’s left him short, Gundogan’s got to go for it.
“His foot gets the ball, goes to ground and then pops up.
"It is a foul but not a card for me.”
City went on to win the game 2-0 thanks to second-half goals from Bernardo Silva and Leroy Sane.
