Liverpool's 'only advantage' in the Premier League title race revealed by Paul Merson
PAUL MERSON says Liverpool only have one advantage left in the Premier League title race after Manchester City crashed out the Champions League.
Premier League: How the league table has unfolded so far
Man City were dumped out by Tottenham in thrilling fashion in midweek - and Merson thinks that's bad news for Liverpool.
While the Reds are gearing up for a semi-final with Barcelona, City will have extra time to rest for the last few weeks of the Premier League season.
But Merson thinks there is one thing in Liverpool's favour - the fact City face Tottenham (on Saturday) and then Manchester United (Wednesday) so soon after a sapping Champions League night.
"I think City losing works against Liverpool. They've got another two games against Barcelona," Merson said.
"It has to be in the next two games. If they win the next two, I don't see how City will get stopped.
"Liverpool play two games against Barcelona, City have got a rest then. The four days - Saturday and then Wednesday - if they win them... City going out has made it more of a good thing for them.
"The only advantage Liverpool have is them two games are now, straight after they've gone out.
"If it was just Tottenham this week, and then Man United the following week, then okay. But it's a quick turnover."
Liverpool travel to Barcelona for the first leg of their Champions League semi-final on May 1 and Merson expects them to come out on top.
"I think Liverpool will beat Barcelona over two legs," he said.
"I don't see how they can deal with the front three and I just think Virgil van Dijk will show he's the best centre-half in the world.
"He will step up and the three going forward will be miles too quick for Barcelona."
