Man Utd news: Ole Gunnar Solskjaer decision was WRONG - Tim Cahill
MANCHESTER UNITED were wrong to appoint Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as permanent manager before the end of the season.
That is the opinion of former Everton and Australia forward Tim Cahill.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had a near-perfect spell in interim charge of Manchester United between December and March.
The former striker was awarded a three-year contract just over two weeks ago but has seen his side’s form dip considerably.
Cahill believes it would have been better to wait until the summer before making a decision, whether that was Solskjaer or someone else.
Could they have waited until the end of the season? For me I think they should have waited.
“I think the decision to make him manager, after all those results while he was riding a wave and the players as well, was a decision maybe they have made too early,” Cahill told beIN SPORTS.
“Could they have waited until the end of the season?
“For me I think they should have waited.
“As a player it’s nice to have fun and to have a good changing room and to get that camaraderie and have a huddle.
“But huddles and camaraderie doesn’t last forever.
“At Manchester United, you need to have an aura as a manager that stands there.
“Alex Ferguson didn’t even need to speak and he was respected.
“Ole’s going to have to earn it and fair play he has done well.
“But as a player coming out of playing I would be thinking they could have just waited until the end and had that executive decision.
“Whether that was going to be a celebration for Ole, or whether he was still going to be part of the staff with a massive manager in place.”
