Saints in chaos after failed bids
SOUTHAMPTON’S future was thrown even deeper into confusion yesterday as two groups trying to buy the stricken League One club pulled out of negotiations.
The most significant withdrawal came from the Pinnacle consortium, of which former Saints star Matt Le Tissier was a key member.
Le Tissier said that the decision followed the failure to overturn the 10-point penalty, held over to August, that came with going into administration in April.
Earlier a group headed by Dorset businessman Marc Jackson, and including financial backers from Israel, also said they were no longer interested in a deal.
Now Saints’ administrator Mark Fry is pinning hopes on a mystery overseas consortium rescuing the managerless club, who were relegated last season.
