The City boss watched his side dominate struggling Cardiff with a 2-0 victory at the Etihad which took them back on top of the Premier League table by a point from Liverpool.
First half goals from Kevin De Bruyne and Leroy Sane sealed the points.
But Guardiola maintained Manchester City must become more ruthless in front of goal after putting away a fraction of 27 shots on goal on Wednesday night.
“We played really well and we started really well with Kevin De Bruyne scoring a magnificent goal. Unfortunately we missed a lot of chances and we need to score more goals,” Guardiola said.
De Bruyne’s return to top form and an excellent first Premier League start from Phil Foden were bright spots on a night marred with the loss of Oleksandr Zinchenko to a hamstring injury.
It was a setback that left City “short of options” at left-back ahead of a busy two weeks which see them tackle Brighton in the FA Cup Final followed by Spurs in the first leg of their Champions League quarter final.
“It doesn’t look good,” said Pep Guardiola of the injury, picking out another problem after highlighting his side’s wastefulness. “Right now I don’t know [how bad] and we will see tomorrow.
“It is disappointing as he [Zinchenko] give us a lot but it is what it is. He has played a lot of minutes. We accept it and we have to find a solution. For Danilo it is not his natural position although he has played there in important games for us this season.

“We will see about Benjamin Mendy but we don’t have many options.”
Mendy is fit again but is still in hot water with the City boss after being pictured out in a city centre nightclub last Saturday morning.
Understandably, Guardiola chose instead to focus on the return to full fitness of De Bruyne and the contribution from Foden.
“Everyone was in a high level of course but we have missed Kevin De Bruyne this season and today in the first 15 20 minutes he was,“ Guardiola said.
