Robbie Savage picks out ONE Liverpool signing and highlights difference to Man Utd star
LIVERPOOL goalkeepers Alisson has settled into life at Anfield quicker than David de Gea did at Manchester United.
That’s according to former Premier League star Robbie Savage, who used to play for United as a youngster.
Liverpool are on the verge of their first English league title in 29 years, and sit top of the table by two points with seven games to go.
Their rivals Manchester City, however, do have a game in hand on the Reds, against United on April 24.
While Liverpool’s biggest threats last season were their forward players, they’ve more than sured up at the back this season - something that many feel has led to their title push.
The signing of Alisson, added to by the acquisition of Virgil van Dijk last January has given them the best defensive record in the league this season.
Van Dijk is favourite to win the PFA player of the year award, while Alisson is on track to win the Golden Glove.
And Savage, who has picked his Premier League team of the season so far, believes that Alisson, has been imperative to Liverpool’s title challenge this season.
He even noted that United’s imperious De Gea didn’t make that sort of difference immediately at Old Trafford.
“Last season, Liverpool’s run to the Champions League final was all about their front three,” Savage told the Mirror.
“This year, their challenge has been built on rocks at the back.
“As well as the full-backs (an honourable mention to Crystal Palace youngster Aaron Wan Bissaka, who just missed out).
“I have been hugely impressed with the way Alisson has enjoyed such a composed first season in the Premier League.
“Even David De Gea did not settle instantly at Manchester United.
“So don’t underestimate the fact Alisson has conceded only 18 goals in 31 Premier League games.”
Liverpool are also still involved in the Champions League where they face Porto in the quarter-finals.
Their title foes City come up against Tottenham in the quarter finals of Europe’s elite competition - the second year in a row they’ve had to face an English side in the last eight.
