Arsenal settle on Denis Suarez replacement after failed Barcelona transfer experiment
ARSENAL want PSG star Christopher Nkunku to replace Denis Suarez, according to reports.
Arsenal: Denis Suarez 'deserves a chance' to start says pundit
Arsenal signed Suarez on loan from Barcelona in January, hoping that the Spain international would be an upgrade on either Henrikh Mkhitaryan or Alex Iwobi.
However, the 25-year-old is yet to start a single Premier League match and, consequently, now faces returning to the Nou Camp at the end of the season.
Arsenal’s failure to play Suarez has also prompted a theory from French journalist Julien Laurens, who said: “On paper he looked like a good signing, it’s a loan, let’s see what he can do in England.
“It turns out even at training maybe Emery has seen that he was not good enough to give him more game time.
“So I think this one obviously is not going to go any further."
And The Sun claim Arsenal want Nkunku to be his replacement.
The Gunners came close to signing the midfielder back in January but were ultimately unable to get a deal done.
Arsenal are, however, hopeful that a bid of £18million will be enough to sign him in the summer.
Whether they are able to, though, remains to be seen.
Meanwhile, news of Arsenal lining up a Suarez replacement comes at a time where:
- Barcelona are concerned about the north London giants.
- The Arsenal squad blame one person for Unai Emery and Mesut Ozil’s poor relationship.
- A new revelation regarding who Arsene Wenger wanted at Arsenal has come to light.
Nkunku was recently asked about his PSG future amid Arsenal links, saying: “I’ve thought about my future as all the players do.
“Today, I'm a Parisian until the end of my contract in 2020 and after we'll see the club.”
Suarez could feature when Arsenal face Newcastle on April 1.
But time appears to be running out for him to forge a career for himself in north London.
