Liverpool are missing ONE thing to be a ‘top team’ - Jamie Carragher
LIVERPOOL do not have one key thing most top teams have, claims Reds legend Jamie Carragher.
Liverpool are missing a midfield who can score goals says pundit
Liverpool are currently second in the Premier League table, looking to win their first top-flight title since 1990.
However, Carragher believes Jurgen Klopp’s side rely too much on their attacking players.
Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane provide the majority of goals for Liverpool.
A lack of goals from midfield has been a problem brought up throughout this season.
Normally top teams have a midfield who score goals as well, so if the strikers are off form, a midfield player can win you the game
James Milner, Fabinho, Jordan Henderson, Georginio Wijnaldum and Naby Keita have just eight goals between them this term.
And Carragher believes that is what is preventing Liverpool from reaching that next level.
“The big problem is not the front three,” Jamie Carragher said on Viasport.
“I think, to be fair to the front three, they don’t have the most creative midfield behind them.
“So when they score goals, a lot of it is between themselves.
“Individual play between the three of them, interplay.
“They’re not getting a lot of help from behind.
“Normally top teams have a midfield who score goals as well, so if the strikers are off form, a midfield player can win you the game.
“Liverpool don’t have that so they rely heavily on the front three.
“So when they don’t fire, it really affects the team.
“There’s no doubt Salah hasn’t been at his best, but they need help from midfield.”
