'Operation anyone but Liverpool is on' Liverpool fans RAGE at Man City offside goal
LIVERPOOL fans were FUMING with referee Paul Tierney's decision to award Manchester City the opening goal in their game with Watford.
Man City: Sterling’s goal is NONSENSE says Sam Allardyce
The goal, scored by Raheem Sterling, should have been given as offside, by the looks of numerous replays.
The game was a stalemate up until that point, but Sergio Aguero’s supposed chested ball to Sterling was knocked on by a Hornets defender.
Sterling then made it 2-0 just minutes later, before completing his hat-trick quickly after that.
The result will put City four points clear of Liverpool before the Reds play Burnley on Sunday.
And it’s safe to say they’re not happy about Manchester City’s first goal being given.
Here are some of the best responses on Twitter:
One said: “Last week it was a penalty that wasn’t a penalty now it’s a goal that was scored with the help of Agueros hand but apparently Liverpool get all the luck.”
Another went with: Hahaha but the FA want Liverpool to win the League! Blatant offside.”
Another said: “Garbage. That is a clear offside but hey, there is a conspiracy to give Liverpool the title.
Someone else took a more sarcastic toneL “But the EPL want Liverpool to the league….”
One tweeted: “Don’t talk about a Liverpool agenda ever again.”
Someone else said: “There it is game over. operation anyone but Liverpool is on.”
Another took a dig at City, tweeting: “Man City scoring their 10th offside goal of the season but apparently the FA wants Liverpool to win the league.”
And finally, one tweeted: “The FA want liverpool to win the League.”
Former referee Peter Walton, who was speaking to BT Sport, disagreed with the decision, citing that it should have been given offside.
“From the reverse angle we can see the Watford defender has clearly played the ball onto Sterling and therefore he played Sterling on by deliberately playing the ball,” he said.
"In my opinion though Sterling has influenced that defender and therefore should have been signalled offside.
"But clearly the match officials have said that was a deliberate play from the defender and therefore put Sterling onside."
