Man Utd and Everton fans will LOVE what Phil Thompson has admitted about Liverpool
MANCHESTER UNITED and Everton have harmed Liverpool’s title chances, claims Reds legend Phil Thompson.
Liverpool: Jurgen Klopp blames Everton draw on ‘the weather’
Both Manchester United and Everton have held Liverpool to goalless draws in the last two weeks.
The stalemate at Goodison Park last Sunday meant Manchester City leapfrogged Jurgen Klopp’s side in the Premier League table.
City are favourites to retain the crown they won so convincingly last season.
Thompson says normally draws away at Manchester United and Everton would be positive results for Liverpool.
Both clubs were absolutely delighted because it’s stopping Liverpool getting that tally and staying above Manchester City
But he admits, at this point in a title challenge, they were pretty damaging.
“Harmful certainly in the way of the points tally,” Thompson said.
“Any normal time both of those results would have been quite pleasant.
“Draw away at Old Trafford, draw away at Goodison Park.
“Both clubs were absolutely delighted because it’s stopping Liverpool getting that tally and staying above Manchester City.
“As I said it would be an absolutely wonderful couple of draws away from home.
“But as you heard with the Goodison crowd last week, they were absolutely chanting.
“I think it’s 19 times now they haven’t beaten Liverpool and they were delighted.
“That’s the pressure that they have to deal with. Sorry I just had to mention that.
“That is what this team, these players, this club are having to deal with.
“But embrace it, just embrace it, take it in, enjoy the moment.
“It is difficult because now you’re a point behind.
“You’ve just got to win every game and really the Man United [performance] really wasn’t good enough and I think the Everton one overall, particularly the second half, wasn’t good enough to win the game.”
