Man Utd and Everton have HELPED Liverpool - Ian Rush makes big title prediction
LIVERPOOL’s draws against Manchester United and Everton have helped the Reds because they are better when they are not at the top of the table.
Liverpool have 'excellent' chance of winning league says Parlour
That is according to legendary Liverpool striker Ian Rush, who is confident his former club will win the Premier League this season.
Jurgen Klopp’s side dropped to second in the Premier League over the weekend following the 0-0 draw at Merseyside rivals Everton on Sunday.
It was the second consecutive goalless draw on the road for Liverpool following the stalemate against Manchester United at Old Trafford seven days earlier.
Reigning champions Manchester City are now a point clear at the top of the table with nine games remaining.
When you’re top, everyone wants to beat you, but when you’re second, I think Liverpool prefer to be in that position
But Rush is not worried and says after getting tricky away games at United and Everton out of the way, Liverpool are in a great position to win their first top-flight title in 29 years.
“I think Liverpool are better coming from behind,” Rush told talkSPORT.
“When you’re top, everyone wants to beat you, but when you’re second, I think Liverpool prefer to be in that position.
“I’m very confident, to tell you the truth.
“Yes, Manchester City have a great manager and a great squad, but there’ll be a few ups and downs before the end of the season.
“I just feel with the run-in Liverpool have, we’ve got Man United out of the way, we’ve got Everton out of the way.
“If you don’t beat Chelsea and Tottenham at home, maybe you don’t deserve to win the title, but we’ve got home support in those games and the other games are all winnable.
"So I’m quite confident.
Klopp is 'costing' Liverpool the Premier League title says pundit
“Also, will Liverpool and Man City still be in the Champions League? That could play a major part as well.
“I think it’s all to play for.
“Last year [at this stage], Man City had already won the league already, so that’s how much Liverpool have progressed.
“They’re putting the champions under pressure, so let’s see what they can do.”
Liverpool will look to return to winning ways on Sunday when they host struggling Burnley at Anfield.
