Los Blancos are stuck in a rut and could embark on a mass squad exodus at the end of the campaign. If Jose Mourinho returns, heavyweights such as Sergio Ramos, Isco and Marcelo all may choose to go elsewhere.
So Express Sport looks at how each of the Premier League’s big guns can exploit the current Bernabeu nightmare.
What could happen? If Manchester United want an experienced head to play alongside Victor Lindelof, then who better than Ramos?
Liverpool fans already hate the Spaniard for crippling Mohamed Salah in last year’s Champions League final.
And Ramos, as a serial winner, would fit the bill. He has won the lot during his time with Los Blancos and came close to moving to Old Trafford in 2015.
If Mourinho returns - and whispers that Florentino Perez wants him back are growing louder - Ramos would likely go. And United, as a club in need of a Lindelof partner, could be the ideal destination.

Arsenal
Biggest transfer priority: A central midfielder
What could happen? Arsenal are going to be operating on a budget this summer, regardless of whether or not they finish in the top four.
They need an experienced head in the middle of the park, though, to help out Lucas Torreira and Matteo Guendouzi.
Therefore, Luka Modric would be a brilliant signing.
His time at Real appears to be winding down and a new manager may want a fresher face. Modric’s Tottenham past may be an issue - but worth a go right?
