Souness singles out one player during Everton vs Liverpool - 'You’re risking everything'
GRAEME SOUNESS singled out one player for criticism during Sunday’s Merseyside derby between Everton and Liverpool.
Everton were looking to beat Liverpool for the first time since 2010, a run stretching 16 Premier League games.
The match was goalless at half time but the title-chasing Reds had the best chances.
Top scorer Mohamed Salah missed a glorious opportunity, forcing Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford into a fine save after being put clear through on goal.
But Souness was not impressed with the Everton defending for the chance.
Watch Digne, he’s gone, and until you’ve got full possession and the player is not under pressure, you can’t leave Salah that free
Left-back Lucas Digne was caught out of position, leaving Salah free to run at goal.
“This is bad from Everton’s point of view,” Souness said at half time on Sky Sports.
“Watch Digne at the bottom of the picture.
"He’s gone too early before they’ve got great possession, Everton.
“He’s gone and left Salah to have a straight run onto goal.
“He gets it onto his left foot here, does everything he wants to do but give the goalkeeper great credit for saving that.
“Watch Digne, he’s gone, and until you’ve got full possession and the player is not under pressure, you can’t leave Salah that free.
"You’re risking everything.
“Not for me [Salah did nothing wrong].
“He opens his body up here and you think he’s going to tuck that away.
“But Jordan’s come out, he’s narrowed the angle, he’s made himself big and kept it out of his net.”
